Midwife. Holistic Sleep Coach.
Certified Lactation Consultant. Infant Massage Educator.
Hi, I'm Emma. Midwife, Nurse & Mum of two young men.
Even though I’ve been a nurse for 27 years, when I became a mum 20 years ago I struggled to know the right thing to do for my boys when it came to their sleep needs.
In fact, here's a picture of my son, Ben, when he was 10-months-old.
What you don't see in this photo, is me on the other side of the door crying my heart out having to endure Ben's distress during a sleep crisis.
Watch my video below if you want to know how that single moment changed the course of my parenting and career...
That's the moment I knew I had to find a better way.
Those were the days of cry-it-out, and although that method works for some, it didn’t work for me or my baby, and it broke my heart listening to his distress.
Now, after raising two boys to adulthood and undertaking continuous education in sleep, lactation and maternal health & wellbeing, my drive to implement gentle, holistic and evidence-based strategies for my own babies means I get to share these strategies with you and your family.
Because I don’t want any mum or dad to feel the way I felt.
So it has become my life’s purpose to help guide you as parents to become happy and confident in your new, exciting role as caregivers.
Parenting today is harder than it was 20-years ago.
Mostly due to the ever-increasing pressure of over-glamorisation and idealisation on social media of what 'parenting' looks like. Not to mention the overabundance of misinformation. This combination causes a continuous seed of doubt in your mind.
But guess what?
Feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing comes with the territory. The good thing is that it’s incredibly easy to shift this feeling with the right guidance.
I'm here to help you.
If there is one most important thing I’ve learned over my career as a Midwife and Nurse, it’s the idea of deeply caring for the mum just as much as their baby, because doing so ultimately supports and benefits the entire family.
So, I’m here to help you put everything into perspective, provide reassurance and knowledge so that you feel at ease caring for your baby.
For me, being a Mum is one of the hardest yet most rewarding experiences of my life and I’m happy to share my learnings and experiences with you to ensure it’s the same for you and your family.
My Approach to Sleep.
All families are different and there is no one-technique-fits-all solution. Most importantly, you need to feel supported of your choices.
Therefore, I tailor my knowledge and experience to meet you and your family’s specific needs and goals.
My approach incorporates gentle and responsive techniques supported by evidence-based research on normal sleep biology.
You not only gain the knowledge to understand sleep, your baby’s unique temperament and what is normal for your developing baby, but also the confidence to manage your baby’s sleep needs as they change.
